Developing and
introducing project management work methods
Organizational structures prove extremely stubborn when
it comes to introducing new forms of cooperation. That's
why "project management" can't simply be imposed. It
will merely meet with too much resistance. Where
companies have established organizational forms and
patterns of behavior, innovative project management
structures can only take root if as many people as
possible are won over at all levels within the company.
Introducing new project management structures should
involve as many decision-makers, multipliers and
experienced staff as possible. Only this will enable
longstanding experience and different perspectives to be
taken into consideration when shaping the new structure.
This eliminates the risk of introducing a structure with
little relevance to practice.
Actively
involving people also helps encourage broad acceptance
of the new structure by the people concerned and is a
key psychological factor in determining the success rate
when an established structure is changed.

Our methodology
We
consider company-specific factors such as the existing
organizational structure or type of products
manufactured and a project-management guide is then
devised jointly by management executives, experienced
staff, multipliers and one of our consultants to ensure
it reflects existing local conditions as best as
possible.
The
methods decided upon are tested in a pilot project.
We
believe it is vital for us to offer active support
during this trial phase. Because only then can we offer
the project team the necessary support to help it stay
on course when difficulties arise rather than
immediately retreating to familiar waters. Moreover, we
can carry out a direct appraisal of the innovative
standards during this support phase.
At the
end of the pilot project a forum is organized to take
stock; this forum comprises a control body, the project
team, multipliers and decision-makers. The project
management structure is adjusted to improve specific
areas identified during the pilot phase.
